Andrew, Noah and Kim returned to the dance floor for this recording as The Great Bear Trio! The group's core sound of soaring twin fiddles and driving piano accompaniment is in top form here, but Andrew and Noah's ever-growing arsenal of strings and percussion instruments (guitars, mandolin, nyckelharpa, hand drums and slide-didgeridoo just to name a few) provide wonderful texture and variety throughout the album. Once again, their material consists primarily of Andrew and Noah's original compositions but a few re-worked traditional pieces are also in the mix. Fun, exciting and creative; Great Bear's blend of highly energetic, mostly-acoustic music continues to turn heads (and feet!) throughout the dance community, and beyond. |

This highly acclaimed 2004 release from Andrew & Noah VanNorstrand consists of primarily original material and groundbreaking arrangements. Thirteen tracks featuring a wonderful blend of traditional fiddling styles from Ireland, Scandinavia and Appalachia but also incorporating elements of jazz, rock and ethnic percussion for a very progressive-acoustic sound. Andrew & Noah, demonstrating exceptional skill on various strings and percussion instruments throughout the recording, are joined by Dan Gurney on button accordion and flute, Perry Cleaveland on mandolin and Kim VanNorstrand on piano.
